The flag presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Delegation to the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) of the People's Republic of China was held at the Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre this afternoon (November 24).

The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, officiated at the ceremony and presented the HKSAR regional flag to the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Head of the HKSAR Delegation, Miss Rosanna Law. The assisting organisations were also presented with certificates of appreciation during the ceremony.

The NGD, featuring paralympic sports, is the country's highest-level multisport event for persons with disabilities. The NSOG encourages persons with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports competitions. Both the NGD and the NSOG are generally held every four years. Co-organised by the China Disabled Persons' Federation and the General Administration of Sport of China, this year's NGD and NSOG will be held from December 8 to 15 in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and cover 37 sports items in the NGD and nine sports items in the NSOG respectively, with a total of 46 major events.

Addressing the event, Miss Law said that this marks HKSAR's eighth participation in the NGD and sixth participation in the NSOG. The HKSAR Delegation captured 17 medals, comprising 10 gold, one silver and six bronze at the last NGD, as well as 42 medals, comprising 25 gold, nine silver and eight bronze at the last NSOG. The Hong Kong, China Delegation also won three gold, four silver and one bronze at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. These outstanding results not only prove the exceptionally high standard of Hong Kong athletes, but also demonstrate the HKSAR Government's continued effort to strengthen policy support and resource allocation for sports development, ensuring that Hong Kong is moving in the right direction in nurturing world-class athletes.

The Delegation participating in this year's NGD and NSOG is the largest to date, with over 280 athletes supported by about 140 team officials and medical personnel taking part in 14 competition events and four mass participation events of the NGD, as well as seven events of the NSOG.
