***************************************************************
The Immigration Department (ImmD) held a themed seminar for over 180 newly arrived Indonesian foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) in Hong Kong at the invitation of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong today (November 18). The event aimed to enhance FDHs' understanding of the Immigration Ordinance and raise their awareness of issues relating to trafficking in persons.
During the seminar, ImmD Enforcement Branch officers reminded FDHs that they should only perform domestic duties for the employer specified in their employment contract and should not take up any other employment for other persons. They briefed the FDHs on key matters to note while working in Hong Kong and provided practical information to them. Officers also appealed to them not to take up any unapproved employment or to overstay. Important information on trafficking in persons was also shared to raise the FDHs' awareness.
Representatives of the Consulate General attended the event. They expressed gratitude to the ImmD for its support and stated that the Consulate General will continue to work closely with the ImmD to further promote publicity and education for newly arrived foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong.
