Home Affairs Department alerts public to false message relating to Legislative Council election
***************************************************************
The Home Affairs Department (HAD) today (November 13) noted that a District Services and Community Care Team (Care Team) had recently received a public enquiry regarding whether members of the public would receive an allowance after casting their votes on the polling day of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Election. The HAD would like to state clearly that the Care Teams have no allowance scheme related to election activities.
Casting a vote in the LegCo Election is an act of fulfilling one's civic responsibility. We sternly condemn the spreading of false rumours that seek to mislead the public and undermine the fairness and impartiality of the LegCo Election. The case has been referred to the relevant law enforcement agencies for investigation and follow-up.
If in doubt about calls and messages which purport to be from the Care Teams, please call 182 111 to verify. In case of suspicious circumstances, please immediately call the 24-hour Anti-Scam Helpline 18222.
