Civil service groups fully mobilised to support voting together in Legislative Council Election (with photos/video)
******************************************************************************************
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, and the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, met with staff-side representatives from the four civil service central consultative councils and representatives from the four major service-wide staff unions today (November 12) to plan the next steps in motivating civil servants to cast their votes to support the Legislative Council (LegCo) Election on December 7.

Representatives from the consultative councils and unions pledged their full mobilisation to support the LegCo Election, and reported on the election-related publicity work they have conducted or are actively working on to promote voting among civil servants. They also stated that they will encourage their families and friends to fulfil their civic responsibilities by voting, electing the new-term LegCo members to build a better Hong Kong together.

Following the meeting, Mr Chan and Mrs Yeung, along with representatives from the civil service unions, visited multiple floors of the Queensway Government Offices. They urged colleagues from various departments to vote together in the LegCo Election. The Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Leung, colleagues from the Civil Service Bureau and representatives from various government departments also attended the visits.

Mr Chan said that the LegCo and the work of the civil service are closely intertwined. Electing pragmatic and capable legislators carries profound significance to promoting good governance and long-term stability in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. As members of the Government, civil servants should lead by example by voting, demonstrating through their actions their support for the Government in administering Hong Kong and their efforts to encourage all voters to cast their votes. It is equally crucial for civil service unions to promote and engage in election-related publicity and activities, uniting the civil service to elect capable leaders for Hong Kong on the polling day.

Mrs Yeung said that the LegCo serves as a vital partner of the Government in administering Hong Kong. It is of great importance for civil servants of all ranks to unite in their commitment to the election, working together to actively fulfil their civic responsibilities and encouraging families and friends to vote together in the LegCo Election, which also represents a significant force in collectively propelling social development. On the polling day, civil servants on duty across various posts will strive to ensure that the election proceeds in a fair, impartial, honest, safe and orderly manner. The Government also has appropriate arrangements to enable civil servants to cast their votes.
