The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, today (November 11) at Government House, welcomed State Councillor Ms Shen Yiqin and her delegation to Hong Kong to inspect competition facilities and events of the 15th National Games (NG) in the Hong Kong competition region and also report on Hong Kong's preparatory work for the 15th NG, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG), and the enhancement of sports co-operation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Director of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC), Mr Gao Zhidan, as part of the delegation also attended, while attending officials of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government included the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki; the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Miss Rosanna Law; and the Head of the National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong), Mr Yeung Tak-keung.

Mr Lee expressed gratitude to Ms Shen and the GASC for their ongoing advice and guidance on the preparation work for the 15th NG, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG. He said that the 15th NG is jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, marking the first time that Hong Kong has participated as a host city in the country's highest-level and largest-scale multisport event since its return to the motherland. This reflects the country's trust in Hong Kong and support for the collaborative development of the GBA, which is of great significance.

Mr Lee said that the Hong Kong competition region has made comprehensive preparations for the relevant competition events of the 15th NG, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG, and is actively promoting the Games on the Mainland and overseas to showcase the charm of 15th NG, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG. The eight competition events hosted in the Hong Kong competition region have been commenced progressively, with smooth operations in all aspects. The participating teams have demonstrated their excellent sportsmanship and skills while audiences have been fully engaged in cheering for the athletes, creating an electric atmosphere. Hong Kong will continue to spare no effort in sustaining the positive momentum and enthusiasm for sports and hosting the events to conduct a simple, safe and wonderful Games with Guangdong Province and Macao, and fully seize the opportunities and potential of the Games.

Mr Lee noted that the HKSAR Government has been actively promoting sports development through the five policy objectives of promoting sports in the community, supporting elite sports, maintaining Hong Kong as a centre for major international sports events, enhancing professionalism, and developing sports as an industry. Hong Kong will maintain close co-operation with the GASC to further promote the joint development of the sports industry in the GBA and attract more major events to be held in Hong Kong and the GBA, thereby contributing to build a world-class bay area and the country's efforts to become a sporting powerhouse.
