Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected ketamine worth about $16 million (with photo)

     â€‹Hong Kong Customs and anti-smuggling departments of the Mainland Customs conducted a joint operation. Through intelligence analysis, Hong Kong Customs on October 27 searched a mini-storage warehouse in Sai Wan and found about 10 kilograms of suspected ketamine concealed inside four plastic buckets in a parcel.
      
     Subsequently, on October 28, Hong Kong Customs intercepted a parcel from Germany declared as instrument parts sent to Hong Kong via the Mainland, and discovered a total of about 25kg of suspected ketamine in nine plastic bags.
      
     Through an in-depth investigation, Hong Kong Customs targeted a man who was suspected of controlling the two drug parcels and arrested him in Sheung Wan yesterday (October 31).
      
     The arrested man, aged 49, claimed to be a logistic sales. An investigation is ongoing. 
      
     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
