FEHD steps up inspection of frozen confection factories (with photo)
********************************************************************
To enhance food safety and hygiene awareness among licensed frozen confection factories that manufacture ice cream at the  wholesale level, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) and the Environmental Hygiene Branch of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) launched a series of operations to step up inspections of licensed frozen confection factories that manufacture ice cream at the wholesale level across various districts in Hong Kong with a view to ensuring food safety.

A spokesman for the FEHD said today (October 31), "Starting from September, the FEHD has been stepping up inspections of factories that manufacture ice cream at the wholesale level to ensure that their operations comply with relevant licensing conditions and meet the hygiene standards stipulated in the laws in the handling and production of ice cream. Meanwhile, FEHD staff will also provide health education to operators and staff of frozen confection factories, distributing food safety pamphlets to remind them of the proper way of handling frozen confections."

The CFS has published "Frozen Confections Manufactured at Wholesale Level - Food Safety Guidelines for Food Businesses", to which food business operators manufacturing ice cream and other similar frozen confections at the wholesale level can refer. The set of guidelines aims to assist them in implementing food safety measures in their operations in order to provide safe frozen confections to retailers.
