Unconscious person in custody dies in hospital

     ​A 23-year-old male person in custody, who had been found unconscious in Shek Pik Prison, died in a public hospital today (October 27).
      
     The person in custody had a chronic drug abuse history. He was admitted to the institution hospital for medical treatment due to physical discomfort. At 4.55am today, he suddenly felt unwell. His condition deteriorated and he was found unconscious during the course of a medical examination provided by correctional officers. First aid treatment was applied immediately and an ambulance was called to send him to a public hospital. He was certified dead at 7.02am today.
      
     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
      
     The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug in July 2025.
