Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     Shun Shing Contractors Limited, Wai Shing Design & Engineering Limited, United Communications Electrical Engineering Co Ltd and a contractor were fined $20,000, $228,000, $234,000 and $228,000 respectively at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (October 17). The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     Shun Shing Contractors Limited violated the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Electricity) Regulations, whereas Wai Shing Design & Engineering Limited, United Communications Electrical Engineering Co Ltd and a contractor violated the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Electricity) Regulations.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 5, 2023, at a renovation site in Tseung Kwan O. A worker, while conducting electrical wire connection work, received an electric shock and became unconscious. The worker passed away on the same day.
