The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC), Mr Justice David Lok, today (September 30) hosted a youth exchange and guided tour programme at the National Day Open Days of the Electoral Information Centre (EIC) of the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) to exchange views with the participating youth group on election-related issues, including how to ensure elections are conducted openly, honestly and fairly.

To celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the National Day Open Days of the EIC are held today (September 30) and tomorrow (October 1). EAC members Professor Daniel Shek and Mr Bernard Man, SC, also attended today's event, interacting with young people and celebrating National Day together.

Mr Justice Lok, Professor Shek and Mr Man first led the group of around 10 youngsters on a tour around the EIC and introduced them to the electoral information such as the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, functions of the EAC, polling process and counting procedures. Mr Justice Lok also gave them an introduction to the tasks involved in an election to give them a deeper understanding of the preparation work in the whole election process.

Following this was a group discussion session, during which Mr Justice Lok, the two EAC members and the visiting youngsters exchanged valuable opinions on how to ensure an open, honest and fair election is conducted, as well as the importance of youth participation in elections. The youngsters actively participated in the discussion and enthusiastically shared their views.

The visiting youngsters also participated in various interactive games at the EIC and took photos with the National Day decorations and the Ballot Box Family mascots at the venue. Mr Justice Lok expressed his appreciation for the participation of each youngster and expressed hope that, under the jubilant ambience of National Day, the Open Days could enhance their recognition of national identity and understanding of civic responsibilities.

The Open Days are held over two consecutive days, with visit arrangements for youth groups in the morning and the public who have made appointments in the afternoon. Highlights of the Open Days will be uploaded to the EIC website of the REO at www.reo.gov.hk/en/service-desk/ecenter.html after the event.
