Unconscious person in custody dies in hospital

     An 80-year-old male person in custody, who was found unconscious in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, died in a public hospital today (September 19).

     At 3.40am today, a 49-year-old male person in custody attacked the 80-year-old male person in custody inside a twin-bed cell. An officer at the scene immediately ordered the assailant to stop and called for reinforcement to separate the involved persons in custody.

     The victim was found unconscious and immediate first-aid treatment was provided to him by correctional officers. He was subsequently sent to a public hospital for further treatment. His condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at around 5am today. The assailant did not sustain any injuries.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The two persons in custody were sentenced to imprisonment for the offences of landing in Hong Kong unlawfully and remaining in Hong Kong without the authority of the Director of Immigration and theft respectively in September 2025.
