Mr Wong and his delegation attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 China Cybersecurity Week. Mr Wong delivered a keynote speech on the key strategies and measures of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in promoting cybersecurity amidst the rapid development of the digital economy at the Cybersecurity Technology Summit. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructures, promoting cross-boundary collaboration and enhancing public awareness of cybersecurity. Mr Wong stressed that several major events will take place in Hong Kong during the second half of this year, including the 15th National Games, and the eighth-term Legislative Council general election, etc, all of which have extensive applications of technologies. In this regard, the Digital Policy Office (DPO) will focus on strengthening cybersecurity protection for major events, reinforcing protective measures for digital infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity monitoring, threat intelligence sharing and analysis, and conducting regular cybersecurity attack and defence drills to comprehensively improve the threat detection, defence and response capabilities of relevant systems and teams. These efforts aim to ensure the safe and stable operation of Hong Kong's digital infrastructure and government information systems during these major events.
He said, "The HKSAR Government will continue to build a secure and stable cyber environment, proactively bringing in Mainland cybersecurity expertise to support Hong Kong's development, and continuously enhancing the cybersecurity awareness and incident response capabilities of the industry and the public. These efforts will complement the development of the digital economy in the country and the Greater Bay Area, and contribute to establishing Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology centre, advancing towards a brighter digital future together with the nation."
On the same day, Mr Cheung and his delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Cybersecurity Week in Zhuhai, and Mr Cheung delivered a speech at the ceremony. He stated that Hong Kong would continue to leverage its unique advantages of enjoying strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world, deepen co-operation, and jointly build a robust cybersecurity shield in the Greater Bay Area to ensure that security and development go hand in hand, providing strong support for the nation's high-quality development. Mr Cheung also met with the Hong Kong teams participating in the "Bay Area Cup" cybersecurity competition, encouraging the younger generation to challenge themselves, sharpen their skills and actively pursue careers in cybersecurity.
The HKSAR Government has consistently supported China Cybersecurity Week activities over the years and has worked together with stakeholders to promote and strengthen public awareness of cybersecurity. In addition to the delegation's participation in relevant events in Kunming and Zhuhai, the Government will send representatives to participate in the 2025 China Cybersecurity Week Macao sub-forum to further deepen exchanges and co-operation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the field of cybersecurity.
To echo the 2025 China Cybersecurity Week, the DPO has joined forces with industry stakeholders and organised the 2025 Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign with the theme "Let's Secure as we Digitalise". The Campaign includes a series of local activities, such as the 2025 China Cybersecurity Week Hong Kong Sub-forum, the Cybersecurity Summit and cybersecurity instant messaging Apps stickers design contest, and more.
