
Hong Kong Customs steps up enforcement action against counterfeit goods activities during major international sports events (with photos)

Hong Kong Customs, during major international sports events, conducted a special operation against the sale of counterfeit goods by mobile hawkers on July 26 and 31, August 19 and 20, and today (August 23). During the operation, over 1 200 items of suspected counterfeit goods with an estimated market value of about $210,000 were seized.
Customs has stepped up enforcement actions against counterfeit goods activities during the Hong Kong Football Festival 2025 and Saudi Super Cup Hong Kong, China. Multiple mobile hawkers selling suspected counterfeit goods in the vicinity of the Kai Tak Sports Park and Hong Kong Stadium were raided, and over 1 200 items of suspected counterfeit goods including jerseys and shorts were seized.
During the operation, Customs arrested one man and five women, aged between 30 and 53.
Customs will continue to step up inspection and enforcement to vigorously combat different kinds of counterfeit goods activities in order to safeguard consumer rights at full strength.
Customs reminds consumers to purchase goods at reputable shops and to check with the trademark owners or their authorised agents if the authenticity of a product is in doubt. Traders should be cautious and prudent in merchandising since the sale of counterfeit goods is a serious crime and offenders are liable to criminal sanctions.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person who sells or possesses for sale any goods with a forged trademark commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
