Correctional officers stop remand person in custody from attacking staff member

At 9.49pm yesterday, five male remand persons in custody, aged between 24 and 37, engaged in an argument inside a dormitory. Officers at the scene immediately ordered them to stop and called for reinforcement. In the meantime, a 31-year-old male remand person in custody suddenly attacked a correctional officer. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant.
During the incident, the officer concerned sustained injuries to his face and hand. After examination and treatment by the institution Medical Officer, he was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. The assailant did not sustain any injuries.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The assailant was remanded for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug in October 2024.
