During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Yuen Long yesterday, Customs officers intercepted two suspicious men and seized 219 suspected etomidate capsules and about 250g of suspected ketamine in a paper bag carried by one of them. The two men were subsequently arrested. Customs officers later escorted them to a village house unit nearby for a search and further seized 3,186 suspected etomidate capsules, about 300g of suspected crack cocaine and a batch of suspected drug packaging paraphernalia.
The arrested men, who claimed to be unemployed and a transportation worker respectively, have been charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (August 23).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
Members of the public may report any suspected drug trafficking activities to Customs' 24-hour hotline 182 8080 or its dedicated crime-reporting email account (crimereport@customs.gov.hk) or online form (eform.cefs.gov.hk/form/ced002).
