Hong Kong Museum of History to hold exhibition on 60th anniversary of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong from tomorrow (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
To commemorate and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong, the Chinese Culture Promotion Office (CCPO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Water Supplies Department (WSD) jointly present "An Inseparable Bond, Our Blessed Origin: 60th Anniversary of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong" Exhibition, at the Lobby, 1/F, Hong Kong Museum of History, from tomorrow (August 23) to December 15. Admission is free. With rare historical photos and text descriptions, the exhibition showcases Hong Kong's response to drought in the 1960s, the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Construction Project, and the ongoing efforts of the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong to ensure the quality and quantity of the Dongjiang water supply.

The supply of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong since 1965 serves as an important cornerstone for maintaining Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. Coming from the mountains, the continuous flow of Dongjiang water not only alleviates Hong Kong's water shortage but also symbolises the inseparable blood ties and deep friendship between the people of the Mainland and Hong Kong. Spanning 83 kilometres, this large-scale inter-basin water supply project was completed in just one year, with contributions from tens of thousands of builders from the Pearl River Delta, including over 200 faculty members and students from Guangdong Industrial Institute (now Guangdong University of Technology). The exhibition introduces their stories of pouring their youthful passion into the project.

The exhibition also features an interactive quiz game, allowing members of the public to understand this vast water supply project from multiple perspectives, and tips on water conservation. It also displays award-winning entries from the "Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong" Primary School Parent-child Drawing Competition held earlier.

The exhibition is jointly organised by the CCPO and the WSD, and supported by the Hong Kong Museum of History and Bauhinia Magazine. For details of the exhibition, please visit the website: www.ccpo.gov.hk/en/programme/an-inseparable-bond-our-blessed-origin-60th-anniversary-of-dongjiang-water-supply-to-hong-kong-exhibition/

The exhibition is one of the activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong under the theme "Dongjiang River - An Inseparable Bond, Our Blessed Origin". Through various activities, the Government aims to enhance public understanding of the importance of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong's prosperity, stability and long-term development as well as the country's longstanding care and support for Hong Kong.
