SCED to visit New Zealand and Australia

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, will depart for a visit to New Zealand and Australia tonight (August 9) to promote Hong Kong's premier business environment and update the political and business sectors of the two countries on the city's latest developments with a view to forging closer economic and trade relationships.

     During the trip, Mr Yau will also meet with representatives of the local trade to promote Hong Kong's advantages as a wine and liquor trading hub. In addition, he will officiate at a reception to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney.

     Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong on August 16. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr Yau's absence.
