CFS urges public not to consume a kind of bottled water suspected to be contaminated with bacteria
***************************************************************

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (July 28) said that a notification was received from the Macao authorities concerned that a kind of bottled water originated from Australia was found to contain the bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The CFS is following up on the incident. Members of the public should not consume the affected batch of product. The trade should also stop using or selling the affected product immediately if they possess it.

     Product details are as follows:

Product name: Natural Alkaline Spring Water
Brand: PH8
Place of origin: Australia
Volume: 1.5 litres
Batch Number: PKD09/05/24 B.09
Best-before date: May 9, 2026
Importer: Black Type Distribution (HK) Limited
Distributor: Parknshop (HK) Limited

A spokesman for the CFS said, "The CFS received a notification from the Macao authorities that the above-mentioned bottled water was detected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately contacted the local importer to follow-up. The importer concerned has initiated a recall on the affected product according to the CFS' instructions. Members of the public may call the distributor's hotline at 2606 8658 for enquiries about the recall of the product concerned."

"Pseudomonas aeruginosa found in bottled water may indicate contamination of the water source and/or during the manufacture, packaging, transport and storage process. The presence of a large amount of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in packaged water can be associated with changes in taste, odour and turbidity, but rarely causes severe diseases to healthy persons generally," CFS spokesman said.

The CFS will alert the trade, continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action. An investigation is ongoing.
