The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) announced today (April 28) that the GREEN$ Electronic Participation Incentive Scheme (GREEN$ ePIS) and the retail reward platform MoneyBack have jointly launched a time-limited points reward and special offer to encourage public participation in resources separation and recycling, and more use of the new e-points conversion feature of the GREEN$ ePIS.
The EPD spokesperson said that the gift redemption of the GREEN$ ePIS is keeping pace with times and is gradually transitioning into a digital form. In addition to rewards such as MTR tickets and local eco-tours, members of the public can now convert GREEN$ Points to MoneyBack e-points with the GREEN$ mobile app anytime and anywhere, allowing them to redeem gifts freely such as food items, personal care products, electrical appliances and supermarket vouchers at more than 500 supermarkets and retail stores across the territory. In addition to keeping pace with the times by moving towards digitalisation, it also enhances the programme's attractiveness to the public. The new electronic redemption option has been well received by members of the public since its trial launch last December, and the EPD will continue to explore and provide more electronic redemption platforms available for consideration of the GREEN$ users.
To support the full rollout of the new point redemption function of the GREEN$ ePIS, GREEN$ ePIS is collaborating with MoneyBack to offer a time-limited reward of an extra 100 MoneyBack points starting from today till June 27, 2025. The first 10 000 MoneyBack members who successfully link their MoneyBack accounts on the GREEN$ ePIS mobile app and convert their GREEN$ Points into MoneyBack Points will receive an extra 100 MoneyBack Points, encouraging more public to try out the GREEN$ Points conversion feature. For details, please visit the Hong Kong Waste Reduction Website: www.wastereduction.gov.hk/en-hk/green-moneyback-e-point-converions.
With the new electronic redemption function, members of the public can conveniently redeem e-rewards using GREEN$ Points anytime with the GREEN$ app, offering an extensive range of gift options. The EPD will gradually phase out the use of traditional gift redemption units by the end of May.
After the cessation of gift redemption units, a transition period will be provided for members of the public accustomed to redeeming physical gifts to continue to redeem daily necessities such as groceries, as well as environmentally friendly products, at the service counters of the GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities up to the end of this year. Starting from January 2026, the EPD will arrange to gradually phase out physical gift redemptions and fully transition to electronic gift redemption for the GREEN$ ePIS within the first quarter. For details, please inquire with staff at any GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities.
The EPD spokesperson added that the EPD will continue to enhance promotion of the GREEN$ electronic redemption options through various channels such as social media and the Hong Kong Waste Reduction Website. In addition, the Green Outreach will visit public rental housing estates where gift redemption units are in operation to brief members of the public and assist them in installing the GREEN$ app and using the electronic redemption function. The promotion schedule of Green Outreach at public rental housing estates and the arrangements for cessation of the service of gift redemption units can be found from the following link: www.wastereduction.gov.hk/en-hk/pilot-programme-smart-recycling-systems.
