*********************************************************
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin) supported the 4th Red Lotus Asian Film Festival in Vienna, Austria, from April 24 to 27 (Vienna time).

Speaking before the screening of the opening film, "Fight For Tomorrow", the Deputy Director of HKETO Berlin, Mr Billy Leung, highlighted the achievements of Hong Kong's creative talent and the Hong Kong Government's support for the development of the film industry, especially through the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency and the Film Development Fund.

"Over the years, our Film Development Fund has provided funding support for more than 120 film projects, involving over 110 new directors and producers who have made movies that have collectively won over 180 awards," Mr Leung said. "As an international city, the Hong Kong Government places strong emphasis on promoting Hong Kong culture through extending the international reach of Hong Kong films. To this end, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin has been actively supporting the screening of Hong Kong movies in different European film festivals to promote exchanges with the industries and audiences in the region," he added.

HKETO Berlin also hosted a reception before the screening, welcoming guests from business, cultural and media organisations. Mr Leung highlighted to the guests in particular the Hong Kong-Europe-Asian Film Collaboration Funding Scheme, launched by the Film Development Fund last year. The scheme aims to subsidise film projects coproduced by filmmakers from European and Asian countries to produce films featuring Hong Kong, European and Asian cultures, facilitating Hong Kong films to go global.
