Hong Kong Reading Week 2025 to be held from April 19 to 27

The HKPL will participate in the reading promotion event 2025 Hong Kong Reading+, organised by the Hong Kong Publishing Federation (HKPF) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin from April 18 to 27. On April 19, the HKPL and HKPF will hold the launching ceremony of Hong Kong Reading Week 2025 and 2025 Hong Kong Reading+. The HKPL will introduce its electronic resources to the public and hold handicraft workshops at the event venue, where the HKPF will hold author sharing sessions, an exhibition, music performances, workshops and more.
On the Hong Kong Reading for All Day on April 23, reading locations will be set up at selected LCSD venues, public libraries, community libraries and local groups for the "Read Together for Half an Hour" event. The Hans Andersen Club will also set up a reading location and hold a carnival at Lok Fu Place to encourage members of the public to participate in reading activities during the Hong Kong Reading for All Day to cultivate a persistent reading habit.
On April 26, this year's 4.23 World Book Day Creative Competition prize presentation ceremony will be held under the theme of "Reading - My Travel Buddy", with the winning works of students from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao on display at the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL), where fun day activities will be offered to the public on April 26 and 27. On April 27, the HKPL, in collaboration with Bring Me A Book Hong Kong, will hold REadCONNECT activities, including author sharing sessions and creative book making workshops, at the HKCL. The Pop-up Library@Hong Kong Reading Week 2025 will also be conducted at D·PARK in Tsuen Wan on April 27, with booth activities including a virtual reality tour of the natural landscape and cultural attractions of China and handicraft making, as well as author sharing sessions.
The HKPL together with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 5, have invited celebrities from different sectors to share the joy of reading. An initial video featuring pop singer Stephanie Ho introducing her choice of a favourite book has already been uploaded to the HKRW website and the Reading is Joyful social media page. The audio clip will also be broadcast on RTHK Radio 5. From April 19, videos and audio clips of pop singer Cloud, artiste Alex Fong and Cantonese opera performer Law Kar-ying will be uploaded online and broadcast on RTHK Radio 5 respectively.
To encourage the public to make good use of the reading resources of the HKPL, patrons borrowing physical library materials will receive a bookmark depicting the winning entries of Matching Quotes with Snapshots Competition during the HKRW. In addition, children aged 9 or below applying for HKPL library cards during this period will receive an "Embarking on a Parent-Child Reading Journey" height meter to encourage them to develop a habit of reading from an early age.
Selected public libraries across Hong Kong will also be decorated in the two weekends of the HKRW to create a fun-filled reading space, alongside storytelling and handicraft workshops. Self-service photo booths will be available at some of the selected public libraries for patrons to create travel-themed postcards.
The Art Promotion Office has also collaborated with the HKPL to launch the "Art/Library - Community Art Project". A series of artistic and creative images with QR codes will be displayed at various government venues. Members of the public can scan the QR codes with their mobile devices and start reading selected e-books.
