The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, the largest global exhibition exclusively devoted to inventions, celebrated its 50th edition this year. Over the past half century, it has showcased countless innovations and technological breakthroughs. This year's exhibition was held from April 9 to 13 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Hong Kong team participating in the Exhibition comprised about 40 organisations including universities, research and development (R&D) centres, research laboratories, technology companies, government departments, and primary and secondary schools. The team won about 300 prizes, including two Grand Awards, seven Special Awards, about 55 Gold Medals with Congratulations of Jury and about 80 Gold Medals. In particular, the Grand Awards, namely Prize of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, and International Press Prize, were respectively granted to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department's "Two-Phase Immersion Cooling System for High Performance Computer Workstation", and Hong Kong Police Force's "Scameter Series".
Moreover, local public R&D institutes, including the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute and the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre, also achieved outstanding results at Edison Awards 2025, a global authoritative innovation and technology (I&T) awards event held from April 2 to 3, winning a total of four Gold Awards and three Silver Awards. The winning technologies cover a wide range of I&T fields, including human-computer interaction, new materials technology and human infrastructure technology, fully demonstrating that Hong Kong's R&D outcomes are highly recognised internationally.
The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, today (April 14) congratulated the Hong Kong teams on their remarkable achievements at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva and Edison Awards this year. He said, "I am proud of the number of international awards received by Hong Kong teams. This is not only a significant recognition of Hong Kong's achievements in scientific research, but also highlights Hong Kong's strong I&T capabilities, as well as our rich pool of talent. The achievements of the Hong Kong teams on the global stage further solidify our position in the I&T landscape in the world. The Government will continue to invest resources and strive to build Hong Kong into an international I&T centre."
