Remarks by STL on taxi fleet at media session
**********************************************

Following are the remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Ms Mable Chan, at a media session after attending the Taxi Fleet Launching Ceremony today (March 3):

Reporter: Is there room for more fleets in the future? Why were three out of the 15 applicants in the first batch of the application rejected? The second question, are there enough charging stations in Hong Kong given that many of the taxis are electric? Thank you.

Secretary for Transport and Logistics: With the launching of the five taxi fleets, we will be providing a total of 3 500 fleet taxis. In fact, we are expecting the taxi fleet operators to attract more of the individual taxi owners and taxi drivers to join their fleets so as to provide more modernised, more innovative and more customer-oriented services. I think today is a start. We hope that we can promote and further attract more taxis to join such kind of fleet management so as to provide more modern and more user-friendly services. A lot of these new fleet taxis will be running by electricity. As a facilitating measure, the Transport Department has identified two sites so as to enable the fleet operators to facilitate their fleet taxis, in particular the electric taxis, to have their charging stations, facilitating their operations.
