Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Transport, Ms Angela Lee, said that the campaign features the commercial vehicle supervisor, Miss FIT, as the theme character in radio, social media and website publicity to encourage commercial vehicle drivers to maintain a proper driving attitude and care more for their personal health. The TD will continue to provide one free health check-up in one year for eligible commercial vehicle drivers throughout the year, with a view to establishing a healthy lifestyle. They may register and make a booking online to receive a health check-up for free in designated clinics across the territory. Limited quotas for the check-up are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The campaign this year appeals to commercial vehicle drivers to observe personal fitness and road safety through a series of publicity and education activities. The six themes are (1) "Avoid fatigue driving", (2) "Drive attentively and avoid using mobile phones" and (3) "Beware of blind spots and pedestrians" as road safety tips as well as (4) "Pay attention to diet and health", (5) "Be positive and manage your stress in time" and (6) "Keep healthy with regular body checks" as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Representatives from the franchised bus, taxi, public light bus, goods vehicle, non-franchised bus, student service vehicle and cross-boundary coach trades, as well as the health check-up operator, attended the ceremony. The two Safe Driving and Health Ambassadors, Raymond Wong and Catherine Chau, had interactive quiz games with commercial vehicle trade representatives, enhancing their understanding of a proper driving attitude and personal healthy habits.
Commercial vehicle drivers may visit the Facebook page and Instagram account of the Safe Driving and Health Campaign for event details, as well as road safety and health tips. For enquiries, please call the hotline on 2804 2600.
