SITI continues visit to Shanghai (with photos)

     The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, continued with the last day of his visit to Shanghai today (January 15).
 
     Professor Sun visited the Zhangjiang Science City and toured the Life Science Hub to learn more about the three 10-year development history of an innovative research and development (R&D) system of the science city, serving as the core area of technology innovation in Shanghai and a national-level technology hub. He was also briefed on the experiences and practices of the science city in areas of industry layout, incubation and academic-industry collaboration, as well as its important findings and initiatives focusing on innovation planning and the realisation of driving new quality productive forces, especially in leading technology innovation and high-quality industry development in the field of life sciences.
 
     He also visited the large-scale Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility in the Zhangjiang High-tech Park. He was briefed on this national large-scale integrated experimental research platform which supports cutting-edge basic research in life sciences, condensed matter physics, materials science, chemistry, energy and environmental sciences, and high-tech R&D.
 
     Professor Sun then visited the ATLATL Center for Innovation & Research, where he toured the shared laboratories, office incubation space and the public service platform. This vertically integrated life technology research cluster integrates an R&D centre, accelerated transfer and early stage incubation, which provides robust solutions for technology enterprises. Professor Sun exchanged views with the management of the innovation and research cluster on issues including the setting up of professional platforms, service operation modes and company incubation. He encouraged the cluster to come to Hong Kong to further expand its accelerator businesses.
 
     Professor Sun also visited the assembly manufacturing centre of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). He was briefed on the corporation's latest development plan, product planning and corporate culture. Both sides exchanged views on Hong Kong's strength in innovation and technology development as well as scientific and research collaboration with COMAC.
 
     The Commissioner for Industry (Innovation and Technology), Dr Ge Ming, also joined the visit.
 
     Professor Sun concluded his visit and returned to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
