The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin), hosted a business luncheon on December 5 (Budapest time) in Budapest that gathered corporate leaders and government officials from Hungary to learn about Hong Kong's latest economic developments and government initiatives.

Under the theme "Navigating the Gateway – Hong Kong as a Prelude to Asia's business landscape", the Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Jenny Szeto, introduced how businesses from Hungary can benefit from Hong Kong's strategic advantages for further expansion into the Mainland and Asian markets.

The Chief Executive's latest Policy Address, entitled "A Vibrant Economy for a Caring Community", primarily focused on creating an economy that ensures long-term prosperity and stability. Ms Szeto introduced the new initiatives for the business sector that aim at boosting Hong Kong's strengths as a global hub for commerce and finance. The Government will also promote a "Headquarters Economy" to attract new enterprises and talent from overseas and the Mainland.

As part of Mainland China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Ms Szeto also highlighted Hong Kong's role as a two-way platform, which facilitates co-operation, financing and professional services between Mainland China and the Belt and Road countries. With the strong trade relations between Hong Kong and Hungary, there is huge potential for Hungarian companies to seize opportunities under the BRI with support from Hong Kong.

Ms Szeto also shared fresh updates about the latest facilitation measures for foreign staff in Hong Kong to apply for visas to enter Mainland China, which came into effect on October 26. The new measures that aim to attract enterprises, investment and talent include enabling foreign staff of companies registered in Hong Kong to apply for multiple-entry visas to the Mainland and enjoy priority processing.
