Fatal traffic accident in Yuen Long

At 5.05am, a taxi driven by a 60-year-old man was travelling along Long Yip Street towards Sheung Shui and reportedly knocked down the 84-year-old woman who was crossing the road.
Sustaining serious head and multiple injuries, the woman was rushed to Pok Oi Hospital in unconscious state and certified dead at 5.56am.
The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.

Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behavior of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens one’s personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.
