****************************************************************
The Civil Aid Service (CAS) and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today (October 6) to underpin a closer collaboration.

Witnessed by the Acting Secretary for Security, Mr Michael Cheuk; the Commissioner of the CAS, Mr Lo Yan-lai; the President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, Professor Alexander Wai; and the Provost of HKBU, Professor Martin Wong, the MoU was signed by the Chief Staff Officer of the CAS, Mr Leung Kwun-hong, and the Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU, Dr Albert Chau.

Over the next five years, the CAS and HKBU will jointly nurture Hong Kong's young generations by providing multifaceted learning and exchange opportunities. The CAS will hold experiential learning activities for HKBU students to improve their fitness, discipline, leadership skills, co-operation and teamwork, emergency response capability, resilience, etc. Meanwhile, HKBU plans to hold seminars and workshops for CAS members and cadets regularly to share research findings which can help them maintain both physical and mental health for peak performance.

Hoping that the collaboration will enrich young people's understanding of government departments, Mr Cheuk said the CAS may provide HKBU students with training and experiences with the characteristics of disciplined services to help more young people of Hong Kong broaden their horizons, unleash their potential, and develop positive thinking.

Professor Wai said HKBU has been putting efforts into whole-person education to promote youth development. He said he believes that the CAS and HKBU can capitalise on each other's strengths through the collaboration to nurture future leaders who are confident, competent, and committed to society and the country.
