**************************************************************************************
The Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Zheng Yanxiong, inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer at the Hong Kong Police College today (September 16).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Zheng said that the Hong Kong Police Force is an important strength in safeguarding "one country, two systems". He added that the Force had united as one, lived up to its trust, and bravely shouldered the important mission of safeguarding national security and maintaining social stability, especially in the face of a series of unprecedented tests in recent years. He also recognised its resolute efforts in ensuring the smooth running of a number of major events; cracking down on activities that endanger national security; as well as preventing and combatting various illegal and criminal activities. He also noted that the Force has made significant contributions to Hong Kong in a new stage of advancing from stability to prosperity following the transition from chaos to order.

Praising the Hong Kong Police Force as the best police force in the world, he said that in the past few years, he was fortunate enough to witness first-hand the outstanding performance of the Hong Kong Police Force which has remained fearless and loyal to duties in the face of riots, epidemics and sanctions. He added that the Police are serving in a profession of honour, playing the role as guardians in protecting the country and citizens. He was proud of their career choice and hoped the graduates would not forget this honour, and to cherish and defend this honour in their careers.

A total of 28 probationary inspectors and 127 recruit police constables (RPC) passed out today. Among the recruit police constables, 14 of them were the first batch of police constables recruited through the Auxiliary Selected Appointment Programme (ASAP). As a two-year pilot programme, the ASAP provides incentives for auxiliary police officers to join as regular Police officers, and at the same time maintaining the impartiality and fairness of the current selection and training. It also serves as recognition of auxiliary police officers’ experience and reflects the comradeship between the regular and auxiliary services. Officers nominated under the ASAP can join the Force as RPC after a 14-week residential training and assessment.
