Hong Kong Week 2023@Bangkok to showcase diversity of Hong Kong's arts and culture (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Week 2023@Bangkok will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from October 21 to November 12 and bring to local audiences attractive programmes of performing arts, exhibitions and film screenings. The event showcases the diversity of Hong Kong's arts and culture, and strengthens cultural exchanges and co-operation between the two places.

The Hong Kong Week 2023@Bangkok is the first overseas cultural exchange extravaganza organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), with the support from the Ministry of Culture, Kingdom of Thailand. Event highlights include the opening concert "Shostakovich Piano Concerto" by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) under the baton of conductor Lio Kuokman, where Thai pianist Poom Prommachart and HK Phil principal trumpet Nitiphum Bamrungbanthum will perform Shostakovich's "Piano Concerto No.1". The brass and percussion sections of HK Phil and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra will jointly perform a chamber concert titled "Brass and Percussion" to showcase the power of orchestral brass. The dance performance "Convergence" by the Hong Kong Dance Company blends martial arts with Chinese dance, a work dance lovers must not miss. Tickets for the three performing arts programmes are available for purchase at Thai Ticket Major (www.thaiticketmajor.com) from today (August 25).

To foster exchanges of young artists of the two places, two chamber music concerts by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, including a concert in collaboration with the Mahidol University in Thailand, will be held. Moreover, an a cappella group and a harmonica ensemble will give free pop music performances, "Pop Beat by SENZA A Cappella" and "Pop Beat by Respire and Friends", which showcase the original songs and Hong Kong pop classics.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office of the LCSD will also organise the "Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival" exhibition to introduce Hong Kong's ICH items through exhibits, photos, video screenings and interactive games. The Hong Kong Film Archive will collaborate with the Thai Film Archive to present "Movies to GO - Border Crossings in Hong Kong Cinema - Thailand". Two selected co-productions of the two places, namely "Flame in Ashes" (1958) and "A Forgotten Wife" (1950), as well as three Hong Kong film classics in the 1980s and 1990s that had inspired some Thai film directors, namely "Police Story" (1985), "An Autumn's Tale" (1987) and "Once a Thief" (1991), will be screened.

Moreover, Create Hong Kong and the Film Development Fund will organise the "Next Generation: Emerging Directors Exhibition & Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation". Seven Hong Kong films by emerging directors, including "A Guilty Conscience" (2023) and "A Light Never Goes Out" (2022), will be screened. The exhibition will display set designs and props in Hong Kong films including "The Sparring Partner" (2022) and "Sunshine of My Life" (2022) that were supported by the Film Development Fund. Sponsored by Create Hong Kong and organised by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, the "JUXTAPOSED 2023 Hong Kong Fashion in Bangkok" fashion exhibition and fashion show will incorporate hi-tech elements and lead audiences to explore the vibrant creativity of Hong Kong's fashion talent.
