Cluster of Influenza A cases in Kwai Chung Hospital

The spokesman for Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) made the following announcement today (August 23):
Eighteen patients (aged 15 to 89) in a male ward of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit of KCH have presented with respiratory symptoms since August 15. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.
Admission and visits to the ward concerned have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been enhanced according to established guidelines. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the conditions of the patients in the ward concerned.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
