SJ to lead delegation to visit Chengdu and Beijing
**************************************************
The Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam, SC, will lead a delegation from the Hong Kong legal and dispute resolution sector, comprising more than 100 representatives from the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Law Society of Hong Kong and enterprises as well as other representatives, tomorrow (August 23) on a visit to Chengdu and Beijing. The visit aims to further promote co-operation and exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong, and to encourage Mainland enterprises to make use of Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution professional services, so as to fully leverage Hong Kong's unique advantages of enjoying the strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world under "one country, two systems" in contributing to the country's high-quality development.

Mr Lam and the delegation will first visit Chengdu to attend the sixth Hong Kong Legal Services Forum, organised by the Department of Justice (DoJ) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, to be held on August 24. The Forum has been held on a biennial basis in Mainland cities since 2010 to promote Hong Kong's international legal and dispute resolution services.

They will then depart for Beijing to attend the second seminar on the legal challenges and coping strategies under the Belt and Road Initiative on August 25. Organised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and co-organised by the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Commerce and the DoJ, the seminar was first held in November 2019 in Beijing to establish good communication channels between Mainland enterprises and the Hong Kong legal profession and to facilitate the export of Hong Kong's international legal and dispute resolution services. The seminar this year will focus on discussing the strength of Hong Kong's common law system and how Hong Kong's legal services can support Mainland enterprises to "go global" and help overcome the legal challenges and risks faced by Mainland enterprises in expanding to overseas markets.

Mr Lam will also take the opportunity to visit Tianfu Central Legal Services District in Chengdu, and meet with the students and representatives of relevant Mainland authorities participating in the Summer Attachment Programme for Hong Kong Law Students in the Mainland in Beijing.

Mr Lam will conclude his visit and return to Hong Kong on August 26. During Mr Lam's absence, the Deputy Secretary for Justice, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan, will be the Acting Secretary for Justice.
