Task Force for Collaboration on the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy holds meeting in Hong Kong (with photos)

     The Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr Michael Wong, and Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal People's Government Mr Huang Min, leading delegations of the governments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Shenzhen respectively, held the second meeting of the Task Force for Collaboration on the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy in Hong Kong today (July 11).
 
     At today's meeting, the HKSAR Government introduced the land use proposal of the San Tin Technopole, while the government of Shenzhen introduced the development plans on the Shenzhen side connecting to the Northern Metropolis. They exchanged views on various aspects related to the collaboration on the Northern Metropolis including the development of Qianhai, works at the Loop, cross-boundary transport, planning of control points, co-operation in Sha Tau Kok and so on. Both sides agreed to continue strengthening co-operation to pursue high-quality development.
 
     After the meeting, the delegation of the HKSAR Government and the delegation of the government of Shenzhen visited areas of the Loop and the San Tin Technopole. They also visited the Kwu Tung North New Development Area (NDA) to learn more about the progress of works there. The Kwu Tung North/Fanling North NDA is the first NDA project in the Northern Metropolis to enter the construction stage, with works commenced in 2019. Population intake of the first batch of the private housing development there started from the end of last year. The bulk of population intake of the public housing development is expected in 2026.
 
     Mr Wong said, "The development of the Northern Metropolis is our effort to actively respond to and capitalise on the national development strategies, and to achieve complementarity while leveraging the advantages and development momentum of Shenzhen and other cities in the Greater Bay Area. We will continue to maintain close liaison and co-operation with Shenzhen on this front."
 
     Officials of the HKSAR Government attending the meeting today also included the Secretary for Development, Ms Bernadette Linn; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai; the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung; the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung; the Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Miss Diane Wong; the Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Raistlin Lau, as well as the heads of relevant departments.
