Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital announced safety incident of hospital facilities

The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (July 11) regarding an incident of a falling of a bedside physiologic monitor:
At around 7pm last night (July 10), while two nursing students were performing a routine nursing procedure on a 70-year-old male patient in a surgical ward, a bedside physiologic monitor suddenly fell from the mounting plate and landed on the bed. The monitor was removed immediately, and the patient was examined by the clinical team. The patient sustained a minor abrasion on his forehead, and his shoulder was injured, causing a slight redness. Further radiological examinations confirmed no fracture nor any abnormality detected. The patient is in stable condition.
PYNEH is very concerned about the incident and immediately informed the patient's family to explain the details of the incident. Engineering staff members were arranged to inspect all the physiologic monitors of the same model in the ward to ensure their safety. A preliminary inspection showed that the monitor concerned and the supporting mount were intact with the fixation parts functioning properly. It cannot be excluded that the monitor was not securely locked on the mounting plate. The hospital will further investigate the incident to ascertain the cause of monitor falling to prevent recurrence of similar incidents, and will request necessary improvement measures from the supplier.
The hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advanced Incident Reporting System.
