EXTRA GREEN$ Daily Rewards celebrates HKSAR's 26th anniversary
**************************************************************
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (June 29) announced that, to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the department will launch the EXTRA GREEN$ Daily Rewards campaign to encourage the public to integrate recycling practices into daily life. Members of the public who recycle at the community recycling network, GREEN@COMMUNITY, or participate in food waste recycling using Smart Food Waste Bins, can earn additional GREEN$ points from July 1 to 31.

A spokesman for the EPD said that members of the public can get an extra 20 GREEN$ points daily and earn six times normal GREEN$ points for designated recyclables, including waste paper, metals, plastics, glass containers, regulated electrical equipment, small electrical appliances, fluorescent lamps/tubes, rechargeable batteries, etc by weight when they recycle via the GREEN@COMMUNITY network during the promotion period. Meanwhile, those who participate in food waste recycling using Smart Food Waste Bins can also gain an additional 26 GREEN$ points daily.

To further assist the public in practicing clean recycling, the EPD has been expanding the GREEN@COMMUNITY network. There are currently 11 Recycling Stations, 33 Recycling Stores (including two new stores in public rental housing (PRH) estates, GREEN@KWAI FONG and GREEN@TAI WO HAU, which commenced services on June 26), more than 120 Recycling Spots, and around 60 smart recycling bins application points covering large housing estates, PRH estates, villages, shopping malls, universities and government venues. The EPD has been gradually expanding domestic food waste collection services. Pilot schemes have been launched in PRH estates and private housing estates, where Smart Food Waste Bins are installed to collect food waste in a cleaner and more hygienic manner. The collected food waste is then delivered to treatment facilities to be converted into energy and compost, making good use of organic resources. The pilot schemes currently cover eight PRH estates (58 blocks in total) and 15 private housing estates, and will be extended to a total of 100 blocks in the PRH estates and more private housing estates within this year.

More information on the EXTRA GREEN$ Daily Rewards campaign can be found on the EPD's Hong Kong Waste Reduction website at
