FEHD spokesman responds to media enquiries
******************************************
In response to media enquiries about suspected illegal operation of undertaker business by a shop in Fortress Hill, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) responded the following today (June 23):

According to record, from May this year until now, the FEHD has not received any applications for undertaker's licence from the related shop.

According to section 92AB of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Cap. 132), no person shall conduct in any trade or business of undertaking duties in connected with burials except under and in accordance with a licence issued by the Authority. According to the Undertakers of Burials Regulation (Cap. 132CB), "undertaker of burials" means a person whose trade or business it is to undertake all or any duties connected with the burial of human cadavers and includes a funeral director.

On June 21, the staff of FEHD contacted the person in charge of the shop according to the telephone number displayed outside the shop, and invited him to assist in investigations. The FEHD is following up on the case and collecting evidence to determine whether anyone is operating a business of undertaker of burials without a licence. The department will take stringent enforcement actions against any irregularities.
