Fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan
**********************************
Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan in the small hours today (June 20), in which a 60-year-old woman died.

At about 4.12am, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 58-year-old man was travelling along Aldrich Street northbound. When approaching the junction of Po Man Street, it reportedly knocked down the 60-year-old woman who was walking along the roadside.

Sustaining head injuries, the woman was rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in conscious state and was certified dead at 7.04am.

The LGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.

Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island is underway.
Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3660 6848 or 3660 6800.

Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behaviour of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens one’s personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.
