Operation of HKeToll at Shing Mun Tunnels generally smooth as TD reminds vehicle owners to pay outstanding tolls

The TD's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre has been closely monitoring the traffic situation at Shing Mun Tunnels. The overall traffic flow has been smooth in general and traffic conditions during peak hours are similar as before. From 6am to 6pm today, of the 37,621 vehicles passing through Shing Mun Tunnels, about 95 per cent have been detected with a vehicle tag.
In addition, the HKeToll has been implemented at the Tsing Sha Control Area (TSCA) for two weeks. The TD reminds vehicle owners with outstanding tolls that they must pay them within 14 business days after passing through the tunnels. The latest date for vehicle owners who used the TSCA on the commissioning date of the HKeToll (May 7) to pay the tunnel toll is May 25. They must log in to the HKeToll website (hketoll.gov.hk) or mobile app to check and pay the outstanding toll, either by credit card or follow instructions to generate a QR code to pay via the Faster Payment System, or at 7-Eleven convenience stores by cash. Payment of outstanding tolls can also be made at the four customer service centres and four service outlets.
Motorists should note that late payments will incur a surcharge of $175, and that the maximum penalty for evading tolls is a fine of $5000 (per trip), and the license of the vehicle concerned will not be renewed.
The HKeToll website provides a video to guide vehicle owners on how to pay outstanding tolls online. If vehicle owners have any enquiries about paying an outstanding toll, setting up an automatic payment means or the HKeToll, they should call the 24-hour customer service hotline at 3853 7333 or visit the customer service centres, service outlets or consultation counters at designated MTR stations and New Territories District Offices. The staff will provide appropriate assistance. The locations and service hours of the above-mentioned facilities is at the Annex.
The TD once again appeals to vehicle owners to complete the three steps for HKeToll services as soon as possible: (1) install a vehicle tag, (2) open an HKeToll account and (3) set up an automatic payment means, so as to fully enjoy the convenience of the HKeToll.
The HKeToll will be implemented at Lion Rock Tunnel from 5am this Sunday (May 28).
