Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     Edwin Lai International Limited was fined $70,000 at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today (May 18) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on January 16, 2022, at a construction site in Tsing Yi. A worker, while working on a power-operated mobile elevating work platform, fell from the work platform onto the ground. The worker sustained serious injuries and passed away on the same day.
