Concert tickets to go on sale from May 24 for New York Philharmonic's return to Hong Kong in July (with photos)

     After its performances in Hong Kong in 2008, the New York Philharmonic (NY Phil) will stage two concerts at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on July 4 and 5 (Tuesday and Wednesday) upon invitation from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Music lovers will be able to enjoy live performances of the oldest symphony orchestra of the United States at the concerts. Tickets of the concerts will be available from May 24 (Wednesday) onwards.
 
     Under the baton of its Music Director and world-class conductor Jaap van Zweden, the NY Phil will collaborate with world-renowned violinist Hilary Hahn on Brahms's "Violin Concerto in D, Op. 77" in the first concert on July 4. The programme also includes Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, 'Pathétique'". In the second concert on July 5, the NY Phil will present Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67" and Dvoƙák's "Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, 'From the New World'".
 
     Each season, the NY Phil connects with millions of music lovers through live concerts, broadcasts, recordings and education programmes. Founded in 1842, the NY Phil is one of the oldest orchestras in the world, and has worked with many notable conductors and composers over the years, including Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky and Aaron Copland. Musical leaders who have served as Music Directors of the NY Phil include Leonard Bernstein, Arturo Toscanini and Gustav Mahler. The NY Phil has appeared in 436 cities in 63 countries, and has made more than 2 000 recordings.
 
     Jaap van Zweden began his tenure as the Music Director of the NY Phil in the 2018/19 season. Van Zweden has appeared as guest conductor with leading orchestras around the world, among them the Orchestre de Paris, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Van Zweden was named "Musical America"'s Conductor of the Year in 2012 and recently received the distinguished Concertgebouw Prize 2020. He will become the Music Director of the Seoul Philharmonic in 2024. Currently he is also the Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) and was awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in 2020 in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of the HK Phil and classical music in Hong Kong.
 
     Violinist Hilary Hahn is critically acclaimed for her expressive musicality and technical expertise. Hahn is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition and is a three-time Grammy Award winner. She also received the Herbert von Karajan Award in 2021 and was named "Musical America"'s Artist of the Year in 2023. Hahn is currently Artist-in-Residence at both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and London's Wigmore Hall. She will become the NY Phil's Artist-in-Residence in the 2023/24 season.
 
     The New York Philharmonic concerts will be held at 8pm on July 4 and 5 at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
