US(Ed) attends sister school exchange activity in Shenzhen (with photos)
************************************************************************
The Under Secretary for Education, Mr Sze Chun-fai, today (May 18) visited Shenzhen Second Foreign Languages School (SSFLS) to participate in a sister school exchange activity for Queen Elizabeth School and SSFLS.

Accompanied by representatives of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau and leaders of SSFLS, Mr Sze first visited the campus and facilities for innovation and technology (I&T) education, and observed the making of airplane gliders by students of both schools. He later attended a student sharing session to understand more about the students' learning in I&T and Chinese traditional culture as well as their experience in participating in peer exchange activities.

Mr Sze said that, after the full resumption of normal travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland, sister schools have gradually resumed physical visits while conducting online exchanges in parallel for a dual-track development. He hoped that sister schools would continue deepening their precious friendships, fostering the joint development of Hong Kong and Mainland schools, upgrading teachers' professionalism, broadening students' horizons and enhancing the sense of national identity of Hong Kong students.

The Sister School Scheme serves as an important exchange platform between schools in Hong Kong and the Mainland.  Currently, there are over 2 300 sister school pairs, among which over 1 000 pairs are formed by Guangdong and Hong Kong schools. Queen Elizabeth School has paired up with SSFLS as sister schools since 2020. Last month, it invited SSFLS to participate in an exhibition and traditional Chinese sports day under the theme "Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country", the first physical exchange activity for the two schools since their bonding, to deepen the schools' understanding and inheritance of Chinese traditional culture, and to strengthen the promotion of their long-term exchanges and co-operation.
