EDB launches "Applied Learning Virtual Exhibition 2023" to promote courses for 2024-26 cohort (with photo)

The Education Bureau (EDB) today (May 17) informed all secondary schools to encourage students, parents, principals and teachers to visit the "Applied Learning Virtual Exhibition 2023" (www.apl-virtualexhibition2023.com) to gain a better understanding of Applied Learning (ApL) courses (2024-26 cohort).

A spokesman for the EDB said, "Jointly organised by the EDB and ApL course providers, the online exhibition is launched today until May 31, 2024. Students can visit the Virtual Exhibition to browse the information provided by all 10 ApL course providers on 60 ApL courses, including course briefs, videos and students' sharing, to gain a better understanding of ApL as a valued senior secondary elective subject.

The EDB continues to refine ApL courses so that the learning content can keep abreast of the latest developments in different professional and vocational fields. Three new ApL courses have been developed in the 2024-26 cohort, which are "Gerontech and Services", "Food Technology and Nutrition" and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship".

"ApL connects theory and practice linked to broad professional and vocational fields. It develops students' knowledge, generic skills, proper values and attitudes through simulated or authentic contexts, preparing them for further studies and work in the future. Students can visit the exhibition to understand the course features, as well as to explore their career aspirations and future path for lifelong learning," added the spokesman.

ApL is an elective subject in the local senior secondary curriculum which complements other senior secondary subjects to form a flexible subject combination that helps enrich students' subject choices and cater for learning diversity, providing broad and balanced learning experiences for students. ApL covers six areas of studies: Creative Studies; Media and Communication; Business, Management and Law; Services; Applied Science, and Engineering and Production. In addition, there are courses of Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students).

Moreover, the EDB has produced a video on ApL graduates' success stories entitled "Exploring our interests, displaying our strengths" (emm.edcity.hk/media/1_4q8sbjwi). The video features the learning journey of an ApL graduate from "Health Care Practice", who shares his personal story on how ApL had helped him develop interest in the healthcare industry, equip him with professional knowledge and skills, identify the path he wants to take, and inspire him to pursue a career in related fields. The video is now available for viewing on the EDB Educational Multimedia website.

For further details about ApL, please visit the EDB website (www.edb.gov.hk/apl/en).
