Police launch brand-new website "SafeCity.HK" (with photos)
*********************************************************************
The Police Force today (May 16) launched a brand-new website “SafeCity.HK” to provide a one-stop hub of the most updated crime prevention tips and knowledge. Meanwhile, 47 “SafeCity Ambassadors” were appointed, with the aim to build a safe and harmonious city by proactively engaging with different sectors of community and disseminating crime prevention information in a multi-pronged approach.

Officiating at the launching ceremony of the “SafeCity.HK” website cum Appointment of SafeCity Ambassadors held at the Police Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Siu Chak-yee, emphasised that promoting community engagement is one of the Force’s major strategic directions to pursue the goal of crime prevention. Mr Siu added that apart from the Police’s efforts, the concerted efforts and collaboration of Police, citizens and various community organisations also played an important role in maintaining law and order and ensuring that Hong Kong is one of the safest cities in the world. The launch of the new website will enable the public to access crime prevention information more effectively and efficiently.

The new website covers major areas such as “Personal Safety”, “Security of Premises”, and “Quick Links” to crime prevention information. It also provides “Educational Materials” for teachers to bring crime prevention information to students to enhance their awareness of crime trends. These resources could help prevent young people from becoming victims of crime and strengthen their law-abiding awareness. Besides serving Hong Kong citizens, the website also offers “Tips for Tourists”, providing practical information for tourists to travel safely in Hong Kong.

The Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) set up the “Crime Alerts Network” (CAN) in early 2022, using the widely used instant messaging platform “WhatsApp” to disseminate crime alerts promptly to a myriad of working partners, including school principals, parents, social workers, and various private organisations. Meanwhile, the working partners were encouraged to share further the information with their relatives and colleagues. Since its inception, over two million citizens have received the weekly crime alerts broadcast by the Force.

To establish closer ties and strengthen the cohesion of “CAN”, the CPB launched the “SafeCity Ambassadors” scheme, appointing 47 representatives from various community organisations and groups to further consolidate the network.

Other officiating guests of the ceremony included the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Yuen Yuk-kin; the Director of Crime and Security, Mr Yip Wan-lung; the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ms Chung Wing-man; the Chief Superintendent of Police (Crime Support), Ms Yu Hoi-kwan; and artistes Mr Bill Chan, Mr Benjamin Yuen and Ms Sisley Choi. The Chairpersons of District Fight Crime Committees, representatives of 18 districts school heads associations and parent-teacher associations were also invited to witness the appointment of the “SafeCity Ambassadors”.
