DEVB's clarification about Fanling Golf Course Site
***************************************************
     The Development Bureau (DEVB) issued a press release yesterday (May 11) setting out the follow-up arrangements for the 32-hectare of land in the Fanling Golf Course. Among other things, the Government stated that it would take back the relevant land on September 1 upon expiry of the short-term tenancy. The DEVB noted that there has been misunderstanding in individual reports/commentaries that the Government would proceed with the housing development works at the northernmost portion once the land is reverted. A spokesman of the DEVB made the following clarifications:

(1) Even if the Government takes back the relevant land, the Government must complete and act in accordance with the statutory planning procedures. The conditions attached to the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment by the Director of Environmental Protection (DEP) may affect the development density, building height and development parameters of the proposed public housing development. The commencement of the proposed housing development at the northernmost portion is subject to completion of the consideration of the relevant draft Outline Zoning Plan by the Town Planning Board, as well as confirmation of the statutory land use and development parameters;

(2) Prior to commencement of the housing development works, the Civil Engineering and Development Department still needs to submit a detailed layout design and a detailed landscape and visual design to the DEP for approval as required.
