Applications open for Summer Music Workshops
********************************************
The Summer Music Workshops organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will be held in July and August. The workshops aim to encourage participants to acquire music knowledge and explore their interest in learning music during the summer vacation. A series of on-site and online classes, designed for participants aged 4 to 15 without any musical training, is now open for applications. The deadline for applications is June 5.

A new online workshop, "Kingdom of Music Terminology", is designed for children aged 5 to 12. Instructors will use masterpieces from famous composers as examples to enrich students' knowledge of common musical terms in order to enhance their music appreciation ability. Participants of the workshop must be accompanied by adults. The tuition fee is $280.

"Parent-child Jolly Music Time" will offer on-site and online classes to children aged 4 to 6. The participants will acquire basic music knowledge including music notation, note values and rhythms and develop their listening skills and sense of rhythm through interactive music lessons. The on-site workshop, "Musical Instrument Kaleidoscope", is open for children aged 6 to 9. This workshop will introduce students to the appearance, tone colours and characteristics of various Chinese and Western instruments with demonstrations from the Music Office instructors and get them prepared for future music classes. Participants of both workshops must be accompanied by adults. The tuition fees are $350 and $210 respectively.

Another on-site workshop, "iJam Music-making", is open for youngsters aged 10 to 15 at a tuition fee of $420. Participants should bring their own iPad to experience the fun of music-making through tablet music software.

The workshops will be conducted in Cantonese. Participants of online workshops are required to prepare their own electronic device equipped with a wireless or broadband data connection, a webcam and Zoom software in advance. A ballot will be held if the classes are oversubscribed. For classes not fully taken up after the application deadline, in-person applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from July 7. Participants achieving the attendance rate of 80 per cent will be awarded a certificate of attendance.
