Fatal traffic accident in Yuen Long

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Yuen Long in the small hours today (May 6) in which a 56-year-old man died.     

     At about 1.04am, a private car driven by a 49-year-old man was travelling along Tan Kwai Tsuen Rd southbound. When approaching the junction with Tan Kwai Tsuen Lane, it reportedly knocked down the 56-year-old man.

     Sustaining multiple injuries, the man was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 2.56am.     

     Suffering from chest pain, the driver was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital in conscious state. He was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and failing to provide a specimen of breath, and is being detained for enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.

     Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 3800 or 3661 3860.

     Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behavior of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens ones’ personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.
