Police adjust entry requirements from May 5
*******************************************
     The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) announced today (May 3) that three of the entry requirements would be adjusted for maintaining its competitiveness in the human resources market and further enhancing recruitment efficiency.

     With effect from May 5, the entry requirements for recruit police constable, probationary inspector and auxiliary police constable will be adjusted as follows –

  • The minimum height and weight requirements are to be removed to align with other disciplined services;

  • The requirement for applicants wearing corrective lenses to undergo unaided visual acuity test is to be removed. An applicant who passes the test while wearing spectacles or contact lenses will be deemed to have met the required eyesight standard. The requirement for colour perception test will remain unchanged; and

  • The Recruit Police Constable Written Examination (Written Examination) is to be introduced to provide applicants with an alternative way to meet the language proficiency requirements. The Written Examination, comprised of General Chinese Test and General English Test, is benchmarked against Level 2 in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. An applicant passing the Written Examination will be deemed to have met the Recruit Police Constable language proficiency requirements, and the result is permanently valid.

     A spokesman for the Police said, "The HKPF has adopted proactive recruitment strategies to attract high calibre candidates who possess the competence to become a police officer. The HKPF will keep abreast of the times and regularly review its recruitment policy to maintain competitiveness in the human resources market."

     The HKPF will continue to disseminate recruitment information and facilitate applicants to join the Force through various social media platforms and recruitment activities, such as the Police Recruitment Experience and Assessment Day, Police University Recruitment Express, Auxiliary Police Recruitment Express, Police Recruitment On-air, Police Mentorship Programme, Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme, Project ACHIEVE and Police Recruitment Buddies Scheme.
