EAC notes Government's proposal of improving governance at district level

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:
 
     The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) noted the Government's announcement of the proposal of improving governance at the district level today (May 2).

     A spokesman for the EAC said, "The current term of office of the District Councils (DCs) will end on December 31, 2023. The EAC learned that, in its proposal of improving governance at the district level, the Government has recommended to reform the composition and method of formation of the DCs. The Government will also carry out the work of making relevant legislative amendments. To ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election, the EAC and the Registration and Electoral Office will work in full steam, making practical electoral arrangements in accordance with the Government's proposal and the amended electoral laws."

        As in the past, the EAC will ensure that the public elections in Hong Kong are conducted in accordance with relevant legislation and in an open, honest and fair manner.
