Proprietor fined for violation of safety legislation

     Hankang Recycling Limited was fined $131,000 at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (April 25) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Loadshifting Machinery) Regulation and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Guarding and Operation of Machinery) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on May 30, 2022, at a recycling workplace in Yuen Long. While operating a bale breaker, a worker was trapped by the revolving cutters of the machine. The worker was injured and passed away on the same day.
