LCSD to roll out Integrated Certificates Courses on Life Saving
***************************************************************
To further promote life-saving and to encourage more members of the public to work as lifeguards, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will roll out Integrated Certificates Courses on Life Saving at selected District Leisure Services Offices (DLSOs) starting from June. The two courses, namely "Integrated Certificates Course on Pool Life Saving Training" and "Integrated Certificates Course on Pool and Beach Life Saving Training", will enable participants to take part in a series of bridging programmes on life-saving under a "through-train" mode and streamline the enrolment process for obtaining pool or/and beach life-saving qualifications at a faster pace.

The "Pool Life Saving Training" will cover examinations for the Bronze Medallion, Certificate in First Aid, Certificate in Aquatic First Aid and the Pool Lifeguard Award, while the "Pool and Beach Life Saving Training" will also cover examinations for the Open Water Rescue Basic Certificate, the Canoe Rescue Award and the Beach Lifeguard Award.

The fees and total hours (including training and examinations) of the "Pool Life Saving Training" and the "Pool and Beach Life Saving Training" are $810 (for 93 hours) and $1,310 (for 152 hours) respectively. A half price concession is available to eligible full-time students. Participants will be awarded with certificates upon completion and passing of the examinations. They could apply for civil service/non-civil service contract lifeguard posts of the LCSD with reference to their qualifications acquired.

"This is the first time the LCSD introduces the Integrated Certificates Courses on Life Saving on a pilot basis. We hope this introduction would enable participants to take part in a series of bridging programmes on life-saving under a 'through-train' mode and obtain relevant qualifications. These qualifications, including the Bronze Medallion, the Pool Lifeguard Award, the Beach Lifeguard Award, etc, are recognised by the International Life Saving Federation and the Hong Kong Life Saving Society. The Courses will enhance the life-saving standard in Hong Kong and further ensure the safety of waters sports," said a spokesman for the LCSD.

The "Pool Life Saving Training" will be organised by the DLSOs of Wong Tai Sin, Sham Shui Po and North District, while the "Pool and Beach Life Saving Training" will be organised by the DLSOs of Kwai Tsing, Sai Kung and Southern District. Persons aged 16 or above and passing the water tests in the first lesson can join the courses.

Enrolment for the courses via the DLSOs, leisure venues with Leisure Link Services, Leisure Link Internet services and self-service kiosks will start from May 8 (Monday) on a first-come, first-served basis.
